Lecture: Im/material Spaces – VR and AR open new approaches to cultural heritage

Cordial invitation to the lecture by Franziska Ritter and Pablo Dornhege: How can digital technologies open up new approaches to cultural heritage?
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are technologies that complement our existing communication spaces and promote new approaches to mediation.

They offer new possibilities of immersive, interactive and playful experience, through which a broader, especially younger audience can be reached. Some cultural institutions have already made experiences with these technologies, first good applications are in use – many institutions still have reservations or simply no personnel or financial capacities. Do these new technologies support us in making cultural institutions more sustainable? How can the technologies be used sensibly? What characterizes a good AR/VR application, what is possible and what is not? What is actually necessary for the production of such applications?

Franziska Ritter and Pablo Dornhege (DTHG) give a basic introduction to the topic and an overview of both technologies and their modes of operation. The range of possible applications of AR and VR will be shown with current best-practice examples. In a joint discussion chances and risks are reflected, potentials and limits are shown.

We are looking forward to the exchange with you!

Representatives of the independent scene, of cultural institutions funded by the state and district and of district cultural institutions are cordially invited to the event.
